Our work consists of after-school programs, summer arts, culture, and physical development activities, parent ESL programs, and a Leadership Academy that amplifies the energy and capacity of Latino parents to create positive change in the public schools and beyond. Position Overview
PLN seeks a qualified bilingual Parent from the community to support the creation of a Latino Parents of LGBTQIA+ Support Group to coordinate families’ participation in empathic discussion and social support circles. The Coordinator must possess awareness and sensitivity to the cultural differences and unique challenges faced by various subgroups within the LGBTQIA+community. The Coordinator will develop a small group of dedicated PLN parents of LGBTQIA+youth, that possess empathy and compassion, understanding and can validate the experiences and emotions while listening deeply to each individual’s process and needs. At the same time providing space to share judgment free and
honestly about experiences, separating participants behavior from the individual sharing their story from their perspective. Thus allowing each individual to express what they wish respectfully and without judgment or unsolicited advice.
The LGBTQIA+ Parent Coordinator will address concerns, gather the support of allies, gain advocacy and organizing skills, and work with the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build a base rapport with Para Los Niños parents of LGBTQIA+ identifying children, alumni, and community members through PLN parent leadership programming, relationship building, community events, workshops, and other engagement and outreach opportunities.
- Form an LGBTQIA+ Parent Support Group of PLN parents of LGBTQIA+ identifying children who will collaborate to work towards improved practices within local families. The Support Group will also hold space and mediate the parents in the PLN community by first addressing individual parents’ personal processes.
- Develop the empathy of PLN parents of LGBTQIA+ identifying children through ongoing support and training. Assess personal investment of parents and potential leaders by connecting them with meaningful opportunities to build their mindfulness in service of the LGBTQIA+ youth.
- Support parents from the group to create a network of engaged parent allies who actively listen and inform the group on issues impacting PLN families.
- Hold empathic respectful space for parents sharing their experiences as
- parents of Latinx LGBTQIA+ children.
Leadership Programs
- Track program enrollment, active participation and information, with assurance of complete confidentiality for all PLN families.
- Communicate regularly with the Program Manager regarding program needs, issues, developments and any additional support needed to complete program goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- At least three years of attentive listening experience, especially in the Latinx community and in South King County.
- 100% bilingual in both English and Spanish: writing, reading, and speaking.
- Have first hand experience (preferably as a parent) of LGBTQIA+ child
- The ability to lift 25/50/80 pounds regularly
Equivalent experience will be considered:
- Possess strong communication skills including listening and have experience in public speaking, especially with a wide diversity of audiences, in both Spanish and English.
- Must possess collaboration skills as well as be good at authentic and open relationship building with Latinx families and community allies.
- Highly motivated, team player with innovative and creative thinking.
- Strong social justice analysis and understanding of the power of community organizing to to transform lives and communities.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of policy issues impacting Latinx communities preferred, especially those within schools.
- Self-starter and can operate with little direction and have a strong desire to learn.
- Basic technology skills and experience in computer programs such as Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.
Time Commitment:
- Monthly meetings with 5 hours of work a week networking.
- Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job.
- Must be available some nights and weekends.
- Must be available for special events and training.

3. Environmental Justice Community Coordinator
Location: Burien, WA

Position Overview:
The Environmental Justice Community Coordinator will support Para Los Niños’ growing environmental education and advocacy work. This position will engage Latin American immigrant families in South King County to identify local environmental justice concerns, participate in community-driven projects, and build leadership to advance healthier, more sustainable neighborhoods.
This role is part of Para Los Niños’ broader commitment to environmental justice and community well-being, aligning with the EPA’s Thriving Communities framework to ensure families have access to clean air, water, and safe community spaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Build trust and relationships with PLN families and community members through
outreach, workshops, and home visits related to environmental health (air, water, soil, housing, and safety).
● Coordinate environmental justice education sessions for parents and youth, covering topics such as lead awareness, soil safety, recycling, and climate resilience.
● Support families in identifying local environmental concerns and help design small-scale assessment or clean-up projects.
●Conduct community surveys, interviews, and focus groups to document environmental health challenges.
● Collaborate with local partners (Public Health – Seattle & King County, Dirt Alert, community-based organizations) to connect families with available programs and resources.
● Assist in developing and implementing community-based projects under the
Thriving Communities or similar funding opportunities.
● Track data, participation, and outcomes for grant reporting while maintaining
strict confidentiality.
● Represent PLN in environmental justice networks, coalitions, and planning efforts in South King County.
● Support special events, fundraising, and communication efforts related to PLN’s environmental programs.
● Communicate regularly with the Program Manager about progress, challenges, and community needs.
Qualifications
● Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in community outreach, environmental
justice, public health, or related work.
● 100% bilingual in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking).
● Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
● Experience working with diverse BIPOC communities, particularly Latin American
families.
● Knowledge of environmental justice, health equity, or sustainability issues a plus.
● Strong facilitation and communication skills, with comfort leading community
meetings.
● Collaborative, proactive, and committed to community empowerment.
● Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
● Ability to lift to 50 lbs and assist in event setup.
