Our Annual Fundraising Dinner Gala, Armonía, comes to life through an official artwork created to represent this year’s celebration by Honduran American artist and muralist Dovey Martínez, based in Seattle, Washington.
The open call for artists, launched on March 24, received four proposals from local and emerging artists, all connected to this year’s theme. The initiative sought to highlight creative voices from our community by inviting artists to explore concepts such as unity, action, intention, sustenance, and reconciliation, as well as culture, family, identity, nature, and collective strength. Under the theme, “Your Interpretation. Your Voice. Your Vision.,” each artist was invited to present their own interpretation of Armonía.
Four participants submitted their proposals. Following a community voting process that received 157 votes from program families, staff, collaborators, stakeholders, and other community members, Dovey Martínez’s proposal received the highest number of votes.
Dovey’s work explores themes of family, identity, motherhood, and cultural connection through vibrant colors, graphic forms, and painterly textures. Inspired by her Honduran roots and the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, she has created and collaborated on public murals in Seattle and surrounding cities since 2019, while also working as an art educator for youth.
Reflecting on the artwork, the artist shares:
“My interpretation of Armonía is the balance and connection that happens when a community shares joy together. In this piece, the piñata represents celebration, tradition, and unity… Armonía is created through participation, laughter, and community energy.”
We are delighted to present Armonía, an artwork that will be officially unveiled at our gala on November 14.
