Internship Graduation 2025

Our internship program has given 11th and 12th grade students the opportunity to work directly with mentors within our organization. Throughout the program, students visited various local nonprofit organizations, allowing them to gain a better understanding of different missions and community needs.

In addition to these hands-on experiences, the interns participated in a series of workshops focused on developing essential skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, and job readiness. This immersive program helped students deepen their understanding of the nonprofit sector while developing valuable personal and professional skills.

Graduación Internship 2025

Nuestro programa de pasantías ha brindado a estudiantes de 11.º y 12.º grado la oportunidad de trabajar directamente con mentores dentro de nuestra organización. A lo largo del programa, los estudiantes visitaron diversas organizaciones sin fines de lucro locales, lo que les permitió comprender mejor las diferentes misiones y necesidades de la comunidad.

Además de estas experiencias prácticas, los pasantes participaron en una serie de talleres enfocados en desarrollar habilidades esenciales como la comunicación, el trabajo en equipo, el liderazgo y la preparación laboral. Para Los Niños de Highline celebrated the graduations and closing ceremonies for the 2024–2025 school year with more than 250 participants. The programs Aprendamos Juntos, Jugando y Aprendiendo, Adult Computer Classes, Latinx Youth Program, and Coding stood out for the progress and achievements of their students. The celebrations highlighted the positive impact of continuing education in the community.

Celebraciones de Fin de Ciclo Escolar 2024-2025 en Para Los Niños de Highline

Para Los Niños de Highline celebró las graduaciones y ceremonias de clausura del ciclo escolar 2024-2025 con más de 250 participantes. Los programas “Aprendamos Juntos“, “Jugando y Aprendiendo“, “Clases de Computación para Adultos“, “Programa de Jóvenes Latinx” y “Codificación” destacaron por el progreso y logros de los estudiantes. Las celebraciones resaltaron el impacto positivo de la educación continua en la comunidad.

¡Gracias por ser parte de esta emocionante travesía educativa! Esperamos seguir contando con su apoyo y participación en los próximos ciclos.

Play and Learn

In the Jugando y Aprendiendo program, children between the ages of 2 and 5 celebrated their achievements over four joyful days filled with recognition. These young students are ready to begin the next stage of their education, thanks to the dedicated teamwork of teachers, parents, and collaborators who have effectively nurtured their skills, creativity, and curiosity.

En el programa Jugando y Aprendiendo los niños, entre los 2 y 5 años, celebraron sus logros a lo largo de cuatro días llenos de alegría y reconocimiento. Estos jóvenes estudiantes están listos para comenzar su próxima etapa educativa, gracias al dedicado trabajo en equipo de maestros, padres, madres y colaboradores, quienes han fomentado sus habilidades, creatividad y curiosidad de manera efectiva.

Aprendamos Juntos

At the beginning of June, we celebrated Aprendamos Juntos, proving to be a successful approach in developing participants’ fundamental skills.

Parents, children, teachers, and collaborators not only fulfilled their commitment to academic progress, but also strengthened the sense of community and cooperation—laying the foundation for a promising educational future for everyone involved.

A comienzos de junio fue la celebración en “Aprendamos Juntos“. probando ser un enfoque exitoso en el desarrollo de las habilidades fundamentales de los participantes.

Padres, hijos, maestros y colaboradores, no sólo cumplieron con el compromiso de su progreso académico, sino que también fortalecieron el sentido de comunidad y cooperación, sentando las bases para un futuro prometedor en la educación de todos los involucrados.

Clases de Computación para Adultos

At the end of May, we joyfully celebrated our students from the Adult Computer Classes. Students from Levels 1 and 2 successfully completed their courses, demonstrating great commitment and dedication.

During the classes, students acquired skills ranging from basic knowledge—such as turning on a computer—to more advanced abilities like designing impactful presentations in Google Slides. We congratulate all our graduates for their effort and perseverance, and we wish them much success in their future projects.

Finalizando mayo celebramos con gran alegría a nuestros alumnos de las Clases de Computación para Adultos. Los estudiantes de los niveles 1 y 2 culminaron exitosamente sus cursos, demostrando un gran compromiso y dedicación.

Durante las clases, los estudiantes adquirieron habilidades, desde conocimientos básicos como encender una computadora, hasta habilidades más avanzadas como diseñar presentaciones impactantes en Google Slides. Felicitamos a todos nuestros graduados por su esfuerzo y perseverancia. Les deseamos mucho éxito en sus futuros proyectos.

Coding Program

In our coding program, students learned the fundamentals of programming through both Scratch and Python. They started with Scratch, using visual code blocks to create animations, games, and interactive stories that introduced core coding concepts. As their skills advanced, they moved on to Python, gaining hands-on experience with text-based programming while strengthening their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities. At the end of the program, each student showcased their creativity and effort by presenting a project of their choice. These final presentations reflected a wide range of interests and skills—from interactive games to practical tools—demonstrating their growth and dedication.

En nuestro programa de programación, los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender los fundamentos de la programación con Scratch y Python. Comenzaron con Scratch, donde exploraron conceptos de programación usando bloques visuales para crear animaciones, juegos e historias interactivas. A medida que progresaron, pasaron a Python, adquiriendo experiencia práctica con la programación basada en texto y desarrollando una base sólida en pensamiento lógico y resolución de problemas. Al finalizar el programa, cada estudiante demostró su creatividad y dedicación presentando un proyecto de su elección. Latinx Youth Program

Our LYP program offered high school students a supportive and engaging environment to grow both personally and socially. Throughout the program, students took part in a variety of enriching activities, including developing personal growth skills, playing chess and board games, expressing their creativity through art, and contributing to the community through service projects. More than just a program, LYP became a space where students felt safe being themselves, built meaningful friendships beyond the classroom, and strengthened essential communication and teamwork skills. It was a unique opportunity for them to connect, grow, and enjoy themselves in a positive and inclusive setting.

Nuestro programa LYP brindó a los estudiantes de preparatoria un espacio de apoyo y motivación para crecer tanto personal como socialmente. A lo largo del programa, los estudiantes participaron en diversas actividades enriquecedoras, incluyendo el aprendizaje de habilidades de crecimiento personal, el juego de ajedrez y juegos de mesa, la exploración de su creatividad a través del arte y la contribución a través del servicio comunitario. Más que un simple programa, LYP fue un lugar donde los estudiantes se sintieron cómodos siendo ellos mismos, forjaron amistades significativas fuera de la escuela y desarrollaron habilidades esenciales de comunicación y trabajo en equipo. Fue una oportunidad única para que los estudiantes conectaran, crecieran y se divirtieran en un ambiente positivo e inclusivo.

New Traditions: Sea Hawkers Latin American Club and Tres Lecheria Toy Drive

While many adult students wrote about customs practiced in their home countries, a few described new family holiday traditions celebrated in the United States. For several years, PLN has gathered holiday toys for participants in our programs. In the face of a pandemic that has devastated many families’ finances, it made sense to continue this new holiday tradition. Nationally renowned bakery, Tres Lecheria, partnered with us again this year. Then the Sea Hawkers Latin American booster club joined in, and we were able to make even more wishes come true.

Si bien muchos estudiantes adultos escribieron sobre las costumbres practicadas en sus países de origen, algunos describieron nuevas tradiciones festivas familiares celebradas en los Estados Unidos. Durante varios años, PLN ha reunido juguetes navideños para los participantes de nuestros programas. Frente a una pandemia que ha devastado las finanzas de muchas familias, tenía sentido continuar con esta nueva tradición navideña. La panadería de renombre nacional, Tres Lecheria, se asoció nuevamente con nosotros este año. Luego, el club de refuerzo de Sea Hawkers Latin American se unió y pudimos hacer realidad aún más deseos.

Welcome back to the virtual unveiling of our 4 new murals. We invite you to come and visit our new murals (3 of them are outside our offices and can be viewed at any time). Art is of great importance to our community and this summer we have been able to create captivating murals at our Para Los Niños office. Our fourth and final virtual unveil is by Edith Mejía, Elmer Ruiz, Erica Refugio Martínez, Kevin Ocampo Michelle Delgado, Sakina Idares-ha, Vanessa Delgado-Alvarez – With support from Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys.

About the Mural and Artist:

Thanks to 4 Culture, Para Los Niños invited local artist Amaranta Ibrra-Sandys to work with our PLN Latinx Youth participants on a mural art project. The mural project consisted of a 3 part series in-person and via Zoom.

Awards

We are excited to have earned a Community Leadership Award at the Washington Association of School Administrators 2020-2021 Region 110 Honorary Awards. Thank you to Highline Public Schools for nominating us and continuing to support us. Special thanks to our volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly during the pandemic to ensure families were able to continue our programs and have access to emergency services.

Volunteering

Our community volunteers held tabling events weekly at three different locations – The Burien Farmers Market, outside of the PLN offices, and La Canasta Food market. They provided information on COVID-19, COVID-19 Vaccines/sites, and our PLN programs. Hand sanitizers, disinfectant wipes, face masks, art supplies, and stress management tools were available to families. Thanks to our four volunteers who continue to empower the community.

GiveBIG 2021 

We surpassed our goal of 5k raising $14,216. We wanted to thank everyone for your support during the GiveBIG 2021 campaign. Thank you to all our donors, padrinos, madrinas, anonymous donors, community members and those who provided matching funds.

Latinx Youth Program

Thanks to 4 Culture, Para Los Niños invited local artist Amaranta Ibrra-Sandys to work with our program participants on a mural art project. The mural project consisted of a 3 part series in-person and via Zoom. While speaking to Edith who is part of the Latinx Youth program, she had this to say “My favorite part of the mural project was getting to meet new people and socializing with the other PNL members. Something I learned is that you can take such powerful words or ideas and make art out of them. Meaning, that a butterfly and a pencil can mean so much while looking beautiful.”

Creating Community Leaders / Empowering Parents

Our Academia de Liderazgo (Leadership Academy) class of 2021 is graduating next month. Since January 2021 participants have learned new skills, broadened their networks, and are prepared for activism outside of PLN. Participants reflected on their experiences and shared some takeaways:

“Through what I learned I have been able to pass on lessons to my children and others in the community. Having reflections and sharing with the community has helped my life.” R.G

“I have learned we have the opportunities to help others. We heard stories from others in the community who were able to make a difference with no resources, which has inspired me. We obtained information we didn’t have and now we also have a support system within PLN. I know we can do it!” D.C

“I learned a lot. One of my favorites was the session on learning about the school system and meeting Superintendent Susan Enfield from Highline Public schools. My second favorite was the open dialogue we had which helped me see different perspectives.” M.A

PLN en la Comunidad

Premios

Estamos muy contentos de haber ganado un Premio al Liderazgo Comunitario,  los Premios Honorarios de la Región 110 de la Asociación de Administradores Escolares de Washington 2020-2021. Gracias a las Escuelas Públicas de Highline por nominarnos y continuar apoyándonos. Un agradecimiento especial a nuestros voluntarios y el personal de PLN que trabajaron duro durante la pandemia para garantizar que las familias pudieran continuar con nuestros programas y tener acceso a los servicios de emergencia.

Voluntarios

Nuestros voluntarios de la comunidad realizaron eventos semanalmente en tres lugares diferentes: el mercado de Burien, fuera nuestras oficina de PLN y el mercado de alimentos La Canasta. Programa de Jóvenes Latinx

Gracias a 4 CUlture tuvimos la oportunidad de invitar a la artista local Amaranta Ibrra-Sandys a trabajar con los participantes de nuestro Programa de jovenes Latinx, en un proyecto de arte mural. El proyecto del mural consistió en una serie de 3 partes en persona y a través de Zoom.  Edith,  que forma parte del Programa de jóvenes, comentó: “Mi parte  favorita del proyecto fue conocer gente nueva y socializar con los otros miembros de la PNL. Algo que aprendí es que puedes tomar palabras o ideas muy poderosas y hacer arte con ellas. Es decir, que una mariposa y un lápiz pueden significar mucho más y reflejar cosas hermosas”.

Creando Líderes Comunitarios / Empoderando a los Padres

Nuestro Programa de Academia de Liderazgo del 2021 se graduará el próximo mes.

Desde enero de 2021, los participantes han aprendido nuevas habilidades, han ampliado sus redes y se están preparando para el activismo afuera de PLN. Los participantes reflexionaron sobre sus experiencias: 

“A través de lo que aprendí, he podido transmitir lecciones a mis hijos y a otras personas de la comunidad. Tener reflexiones y compartir con la comunidad me ha ayudado en la vida ”. R.G 

“He aprendido que tenemos la oportunidad de ayudar a otros. Escuchamos historias de otras personas en la comunidad que pudieron hacer la diferencia sin recursos y me han inspirado. Obtuvimos información que no teníamos y ahora también tenemos un sistema de apoyo dentro de PLN. ¡Sé que podemos hacerlo!” D.C

Wrapping up 2020

We ended the year by providing the families registered in our programs with presents for the holidays thanks to Tres Lecheria, Colores Spanish Immersion Pre-School, and Imperial Court of Seattle and the Olympic and Rainier Empire. Additionally, to fight the technological inequities seen within our community, and thanks to King County, we distributed 119 laptop to adults and provided them with tutorials to learn how to navigate the ever-changing virtual landscape.

Where we’re going in 2021

Our Latinx Youth Program will be providing a limited number of internships in 2021 to assist students with their desired skills and objectives to best prepare them for their post-high school plan. Play & Learn and Aprendamos Juntos (Let’s Learn Together) has continued virtually, while Academia de Liderazgo (Leadership Academy) is beginning its virtual meetings to provide leadership development to our adult community members. Next month, there will be a networking event for participants and the Para Los Niños staff. Our Computer Lab will resume its classes soon.
Plus, now’s the best time to become a part of our monthly giving program, Madrinas and Padrinos, as our donor appreciation program is launching this year.

Toy Drive 2020

We want to thank Tres Lecheria, Colores Spanish Immersion Pre-School, and The Imperial Sovereign Court of Seattle and the Olympic and Rainier Empire (ISCSORE) for their partnership during this year’s toy drive.

This year, we were able to assist the families registered in our programs by providing toys to their children between the ages of 6 months to 18 years old. Now, more than ever, it’s important for children to have toys to keep their spirits high as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times.

The Tres Lecheria has partnered with Para Los Niños for several years to host a toy drive for our families. While this was ISCSORE’s and Colors Spanish Immersion Pre-School’s first year participating, we are grateful for their support.

Queremos agradecer a Tres Lecheria, Colores Spanish Immersion Pre-School, and The Imperial Sovereign Court of Seattle and the Olympic and Rainier Empire (ISCSORE) por su colaboración durante la recoleccion de juguetes 2020.

Este año, pudimos ayudar a las familias registradas en nuestros programas proporcionando juguetes a sus hijos que tienen 6 meses a 18 años. Ahora, más que nunca, es importante que los niños tengan juguetes para mantener el ánimo mientras continuamos adaptándonos en estos tiempos difíciles.

Tres Lechería ha colaborado con Para Los Niños durante varios años para organizar una colecta de juguetes para nuestras familias. Este fue el primer año de colaboración con ISCSORE y Colors Spanish Immersion Pre-School.

Estamos agradecidos por la fraternidad a estos tres negocios y organizaciones.

Dia de Los Muertos 2020

This year, Para Los Niños is proud to be celebrating Dia de Los Muertos with Burien Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services from November 1st to November 15th.

During this time, ofrendas (altars) will be available for viewing throughout Downtown Burien. Every night from 6 PM to 8 PM, the ofrendas will be illuminated.

Latinx Art Exhibition on display – UPDATED November 2020

Para Los Niños is excited to have partnered with Highline Heritage Museum and the City of Burien to create the Latinx Art Exhibition.

The exhibition showcases art from youth in the Highline area. The museum is not open to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions but the art will be on a window display on 152nd street until the end of November.

Exposición de arte latino en exhibición – Actualizado en noviembre de 2020

En Para Los Niños estamos entusiasmados por la colaboración entre Highline Heritage Museum y la ciudad de Burien para crear la Exposición de Arte Latinx.

La exposición muestra el arte de niños y jóvenes en el área de Highline. El museo aún no está abierto al público debido a la restricciones de COVID-19, pero el arte estará en un escaparate en la calle 152 hasta fines de noviembre.

PLN Summer Resource Fair: Come meet our staff and pick up resources for the coming school year on Wednesday, August 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

It may look different from our previous summer events but the spirit of our programs, Descubriendo Nuestra Cultura (Discovering Our Culture) and Alrededor del Mundo (Around the World) continues.
We hope to see you at our Summer Resource Fair. There will be music, snacks from El Cabrito restaurant, giveaways, and, of course, resources for our families.

PLN Art Showcase in partnership with Highline Heritage Museum: Kids grades K-12 can submit their art or poetry to be displayed at the museum throughout the month of October.

Latinx Art Showcase

Para Los Niños has partnered with the Highline Heritage Museum to give our youth an opportunity to showcase their art. Submitted works will be on display at the museum throughout the month of October.
Space is limited. Please submit your art in a timely manner.

Kids and youth in grades K-12 are encouraged to submit any piece of art or poem they have to our offices.

Guidelines:
1. Art must not be bigger than 16 inches x 20 inches.
2. Poems should not be longer than 200 words.
3. Work depicting violence or hate speech will not be accepted.
4. Suggested theme: “2020: Tu Año/Your Year”
5. You must register before visiting our offices.

Exhibición de arte latinx

Para Los Niños, en colaboración con Highline Heritage Museum y la Ciudad de Burien queremos dar la oportunidad a nuestros jóvenes de exhibir su arte. Las obras presentadas se exhibirán en el museo durante todo el mes de octubre.
El espacio es limitado. Por favor envíe su arte de manera oportuna.

Invitamos a los niñxs y jovenes en los grados K-12 a enviar cualquier obra de arte o poema que tengan a nuestras oficinas.

Reglas:

  1. El arte no debe ser mayor de 16 pulgadas x 20 pulgadas.
  2. Las poemas no deben tener más de 200 palabras.
  3. No se aceptarán trabajos que promueven actos de violencia o de odio.
  4. Tema sugerido: “2020: Tu Año”
  5. Necesita registrarse antes de visitar nuestras oficinas.

Latinx Youth Program

Para Los  Niños, Latinx Youth Program began taking implementation fall 2019. While centered on positive growth, academic support, building community, and career exploration. The program also includes activities such as video games, arts & crafts, game nights, etc. While event dates and times reflect on the needs and wants of the Latinx students, the program remains free and aimed for students in 9-12th grade.

El Programa de Jóvenes Latinx de Para Los  Niños, comenzó su implementación en otoño del 2019. El mismo está centrado en un crecimiento positivo, apoyo académico, desarrollo comunitario, y exploración de carreras. El programa también incluye actividades tales como video juegos, arte, manualidades y noches de juegos. Las fechas para los eventos y las horas reflejan las necesidades y deseos de los estudiantes Latinx. El programa es gratuito para estudiantes de los grados 9 al 12.
